The Batch House reopens at Station West
Charlotte, NC – April 28, 2021 – Charlotte’s beloved bakery, The Batch House, has leased 1,435 SF at Station West, an adaptive reuse office and retail development located at 901 & 919 Berryhill Road in FreeMoreWest. Owner Cristina Rojas-Agurcia, a.k.a. “The Batchmaker,” was forced to relocate from her former West Charlotte bakery after a flash flood in November of 2020 destroyed the brick-and-mortar she opened in 2019, just months after earning the titles of Charlotte’s Best Bakery and Best Cookie by Charlotte Magazine. The space is currently under construction and eyeing an end of summer completion.
Margie Kiss from Avison Young represented The Batch House in the transaction. Trinity Partners’ Rhea Greene and Chase Merkel represented the owner and landlord, Blue Jay Investments. The Batch House will occupy space in the 901 Berryhill Rd. building.
“Since the unfortunate flood that took the original Batch House, it seems as if all of Charlotte wondered where and when the popular bakery would remerge,” said Rhea Greene, Partner at Trinity Partners. “We are thrilled to welcome The Batch House back to the FreeMoreWest neighborhood and into the community at Station West.”
The Batch House will kick off its announcement with a pop-up Mother’s Day event at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 8th, where the bakery will offer its award-winning pastries to those who have been eagerly awaiting its return. The original Batch House was known by locals for not just its thoughtfully baked goods, but for the community that was organically formed where patrons felt as if they were visiting their closest friends or family’s house, a place where everyone knew your name. The bakery was decorated with vintage furniture, and pastries served on delicate dishware, and included a slight nod to The Golden Girls, Rojas-Agurcia’s favorite show, all of which she plans to recreate for The Batch House 2.0.
“I am excited for a new season of The Batch House and I couldn’t be more excited that we found a home in Station West, where the heart of being a community and serving the community is as important to them as it is to us,” said owner Rojas-Agurcia. “We are thankful for every step that got us to this path and continue to be amazed at how things fell into place so timely. I’m forever grateful for everyone that helped us get here. We are ready to serve our beautiful city and excited for Charlotte to see our new shop when it’s complete.”
The mix of tenants paired with the property’s event space is a recipe for an inclusive community. The Mixing Yard is a central outdoor plaza that connects the two buildings together. This courtyard will serve as a communal tenant space that will be activated by tenants or the public. The outdoor space features terraced seating, a food truck zone, adaptable furniture to accommodate different types of groups and events, and views of downtown Charlotte. Along with the property’s outdoor space, a multi-purpose event space will be available for rent in the 919 Berryhill Rd. building.
“The buzz in the air at Station West is magnetic,” said Joe Youannas, owner of Blue Jay Investments. “Between the tenants that have signed on and the prospects that are interested, the sense of community paired with the unique space and outdoor gathering area is unlike anything I’ve seen, and visitors are responding well to the concept.”
Current tenants at Station West include Delectables by Holly (full-service catering firm), Main Street Properties & Development (custom homebuilder), DPR Associates (landscape architect and civil engineering design firm), Swinerton Builders (commercial construction group), Haerfest Coffee Roasters, Backdrop Coffee House, as well as an event space capable of hosting up to 727 guests.
Trinity Partners’ Property Management team is also responsible for the management of the building.
