Charlotte, NC – June 15, 2021 – Backdrop Coffee has leased 2,434 SF at Station West, an adaptive reuse office, retail and event space development located at 901 & 919 Berryhill Road in FreeMoreWest. The retail space is currently under construction at 919 Berryhill Road, eyeing a late summer grand opening. Backdrop Coffee will serve single origin and blended coffees from around the world, espresso-based beverages, blended drinks, and seasonally designed offerings. Food items from well-respected local artisan bakers and other culinary professionals will be available throughout the day and into the evening.
The coffee shop features open seating and areas for gathering, along with floor-to-ceiling glass, which looks out to Station West’s central outdoor plaza that connects buildings 901 and 919. Backdrop Coffee’s design is inspired through timeless journey, comforts of travel, and recognition of destinations attained. The shop will also have a section designated for merchandise and a glass-enclosed coffee lab where guests can peek into HÆRFEST (pronounced “harvest”) COFFEE Roasting Co. at work. HÆRFEST COFFEE Roasting Co. has been operating its one-of-a-kind Production House out of Station West since the beginning of 2019.
The mix of tenants paired with the property’s event space is a recipe for an inclusive community. The Union at Station West is a central outdoor plaza that connects the two buildings together. This courtyard will serve as a communal tenant space that will be activated by tenants for public and private functions. The outdoor space features terraced gardens and seating, a food truck zone, adaptable furniture to accommodate different types of groups and events, and views of downtown Charlotte. Along with the property’s outdoor space, a multi-purpose event space capable of hosting nearly 800 guests will be available for rent in the 919 Berryhill Rd. building.
“Backdrop and HÆRFEST have been a tremendous catalyst in creating the warm and inviting environment at Station West,” said Joe Youannas, partner in Blue Jay Investments. “We love coffee and this duo will spotlight Station West on the national coffee scene because of the unique vibe that exists here.”
Beloved Charlotte bakery, The Batch House, recently announced its 1,435 SF lease at Station West in the 901 Berryhill Road building. Owner Cristina Rojas-Agurcia, a.k.a. “The Batchmaker,” was forced to relocate from her former West Charlotte bakery after a flash flood in November of 2020 destroyed the brick-and-mortar she opened in 2019, just months after earning the titles of Charlotte’s Best Bakery and Best Cookie by Charlotte Magazine. The space is currently under construction and expected to open at the end of summer.
Other current tenants at Station West include Delectables by Holly (full-service catering firm), Main Street Properties & Development (custom homebuilder), DPR Associates (landscape architect and civil engineering design firm), and Swinerton Builders (commercial construction group).
Just under 25,000 SF remains available for lease at Station West. Trinity Partners’ Rhea Greene and Chase Merkel lease Station West on behalf of owners, Blue Jay Investments. Trinity Partners’ Property Management team is responsible for the management of the building.
“Backdrop Coffee at Station West is a perfect complement to the property’s inclusive tenant mix,” said Rhea Greene, Partner at Trinity Partners. “FreeMoreWest has attracted a unique group of businesses, like Backdrop Coffee, who are looking to not just build a business, but a community, as well.”
